Cognitive rehabilitation is a program to help brain-injured individuals to restore normal functioning, or to compensate for cognitive deficits. Cognitive deficits affect a person's ability to care for himself, keep appointments, complete tasks, or interact with people appropriately. At stake is the person's ability to succeed at work, school, or home.

Therapy entails an individualized program of specific skills training and practice to improve real-life skills such as short term memory, organization, attention, and sequencing of events.
